Home Price Index Declines in August

Home prices nationwide, including distressed sales, declined 1.5 percent in August compared with a year ago, but increased 0.6 percent compared with the prior month, according to CoreLogic's Home Price Index (HPI). Excluding distressed sales, year-over-year, the HPI declined 0.4 percent in August. August
marked the first decrease in the HPI this year, according to CoreLogic's report.

Including distressed transactions, the peak-to-current change in the national HPI (from April 2006 to August 2010) was -28.2 percent. Excluding distressed properties, the peak-to-current change in the HPI for the same period was -19.6 percent.
