California homebuilders pulled permits for 4,238 total housing units in June, a 19 percent increase compared with June 2009, and 34 percent higher compared with May, according to the California Building Industry Association (CBIA).
According to statistics compiled by the Construction Industry Research Board (CIRB), homebuilders pulled permits for 2,628 single-family homes in June, a decrease of 9 percent compared with June 2009, but 33 percent more than May’s total. Multifamily permits totaled 1,610, up 140 percent from a year ago and 35 percent from the prior month.
For the first half of the year, permits were pulled for 21,149 units, an increase of 17 percent compared with the first half of 2009 when 18,083 permits were issued. Single-family permits rose 8 percent while multifamily permits rose 35 percent.
